Coop, Switzerland was one of the first 10 retailers to introduce self-scanning back in 2008. As the second-largest retailer in Switzerland, they operate in over 1.800 stores and are well recognized for their slogan “We are close to our customers”. Introducing the innovative shopping concept of self-scanning into 80 of their larger-format supermarkets, COOP significantly increased customer loyalty and the average basket size. As the solution matured in the live environment, COOP moved one step further offering their customers an identical experience both on the hand-scanner and the smartphone.
