Dirk van den Broek
On Thursday 29th January, Dirk van den Broek a Dutch retailer went live with their first store running
the Motorola MC17 in Hoofdorp close to Schipol airport. Our partner Centric have installed around 150
MC17's running the My-Scan software. Dirk did not have any loyalty card which
presented another challenge, so as part of the implemnetation they also launched the “Zelfscankaart”
to enable shoppers to use “Scan Direct”.
Within a few days they have reached 20% penetration of sales which is normally the tipping point for a
sub-12 month ROI. This is a great result especially since they are a discount chain - a format which has
been reluctant to consider PSS in the past.
They are very happy with the results so far and are planning to roll out further stores this year.
Customer Journey
1. Transaction begins as customer scans their ‘Scan
Direct’ card at the entrance kiosk.
2. Customers then scan products and then place
scanned items into special bags.
3. Product details, pricing and running total displayed
Store offers are also displayed and the accurate
basket total is displayed.
4. When the customer is done scanning they go to the
self-pay stations to checkout. They only need to pay
and then they are ready to leave.
5. If there is a rescan this is done at the pay station
with an MC17 and is a partial rescan.
